The Lionsgate Portal: A Time to Pause, Reflect and Create
8th August (8/8)
Each year around 8 August (8/8), many people talk about the Lionsgate Portal—a time believed to bring heightened energy, personal reflection and new possibilities. Whether you see it as a spiritual event, a symbolic moment, or simply an opportunity to pause, it can be a wonderful reminder to reconnect with yourself through creativity.
At Art for Wellness CIC, we believe creativity is one of the most powerful ways to slow down, reflect and support our wellbeing. You don’t need to be an artist, and you certainly don’t need to create anything perfect. The simple act of making time to draw, paint, write, collage or create can help quiet a busy mind and bring clarity to your thoughts.

What Does the Lionsgate Portal Represent?
Many people believe the Lionsgate Portal represents:
- New beginnings
- Personal growth
- Letting go of what no longer serves us
- Setting intentions for the future
- Connecting with gratitude and purpose
Whether or not you follow these beliefs, taking a little time to reflect on where you are in life and where you’d like to go can be incredibly valuable.
A Creative Reflection
Why not spend a few quiet moments asking yourself:
- What am I ready to let go of?
- What brings me joy?
- What dreams have I been putting aside?
- How can I be kinder to myself?
- What small creative step can I take today?
Then simply create.
Use colours that reflect your mood, sketch without judgement, paint abstract shapes, write in a journal, or gather natural objects during a mindful walk and use them as inspiration. There is no right or wrong—only your own creative expression.
Creativity is a Gentle Form of Self-Care
Creative activities help us become more present. They encourage mindfulness, reduce stress and remind us that progress doesn’t have to be perfect.
Sometimes healing begins with something as simple as putting pencil to paper.
At Art for Wellness CIC, we’ve seen time and again how creativity helps people rediscover confidence, build resilience and connect with others in meaningful ways.
An Invitation
As we move through this season of reflection, we invite you to give yourself permission to create.
Light a candle if it feels meaningful.
Take a mindful walk.
Collect inspiration from nature.
Open your sketchbook.
Play with colour.
Write your thoughts.
Create simply because it feels good.
