Have You Heard of Glimmers? ✨

What are glimmers?

You may have heard the word glimmers being used when people talk about wellbeing.

Glimmers are small moments that make us feel good.

They might bring a feeling of joy, calm, comfort, connection or hope.

A glimmer could be:

☀️ Feeling sunshine on your face
🌸 Seeing a beautiful flower
☕ Enjoying a warm cup of tea
🐦 Hearing birds singing
💜 Receiving a kind message
🎶 Hearing your favourite song
🎨 Getting lost in something creative
🌿 Taking a walk in nature
😊 Sharing a laugh with someone

They don’t have to be big or exciting.

Sometimes the smallest moments can make the biggest difference.

Why do we like glimmers?

Life can sometimes feel busy, stressful or overwhelming.

We naturally notice the things that are difficult or worrying, so it can be helpful to pause and notice the good things happening around us too.

Glimmers give us an opportunity to stop for a moment and think:

“That feels good.”

It might only last a few seconds, but noticing that moment can help us appreciate what is happening right now.

And the wonderful thing about glimmers is that everyone’s glimmers are different.

What makes you smile might not be the same thing that makes someone else smile.

There is no right or wrong glimmer.

How can we use glimmers for learning?

At Art for Wellness, we love using creativity to help people notice, explore and remember their glimmers.

Learning doesn’t always have to mean sitting down with a book or listening to someone talk.

We can learn through looking, making, noticing, talking and creating.

For example, we might ask:

What was your glimmer today?

Then we could turn that glimmer into a creative activity.

🎨 Draw it – create a quick sketch of your glimmer.

🖌️ Paint it – choose colours that remind you of how the moment felt.

✍️ Write about it – describe what happened and why you enjoyed it.

📸 Photograph it – capture a beautiful moment when you notice it.

🧩 Make a collage – collect pictures, colours and words that represent your glimmers.

🌿 Create a glimmer journal – add one small moment each day.

Over time, you can create a wonderful collection of positive moments to look back on.

Try a Glimmer Hunt ✨

Why not try this simple activity today?

Take five minutes to slow down and look around you.

Ask yourself:

What can I see that I like?
What can I hear?
What can I smell?
What feels comforting?
Who has made me smile?
What small moment has made today better?

You don’t have to search for something amazing.

Your glimmer might simply be the warmth of your favourite mug in your hands.

Or sunlight coming through the window.

Or hearing a song you love.

Or picking up a pencil and making your first mark on a page.

Glimmers and creativity 💜

This is one of the reasons we love creativity at Art for Wellness.

Creativity encourages us to pause, notice and explore.

When we create, we can take a moment away from everything else and focus on what is happening right now.

A simple creative activity can become a glimmer in itself.

You don’t have to be “good at art”.

You don’t need expensive materials.

You don’t even need lots of time.

Sometimes all you need is a pencil and a piece of paper.

Notice something.

Draw something.

Make something.

Enjoy the moment.

That little moment might just be your glimmer.

Your glimmer challenge ✨

Today, try to notice three glimmers.

They can be tiny.

Write them down, photograph them or create something inspired by them.

And tomorrow, look out for three more.

You might be surprised by how many little moments of joy, connection and calm are already around you.

Small moments can make a big difference. 💜

What will your glimmer be today?
