Wortley Workshop – Summer Wreaths: Celebrating the Beauty of Summer Through Creativity

Summer has a wonderful way of encouraging us to slow down, step outside, and notice the beauty that surrounds us. At our recent Summer Wreaths Workshop at Wortley Hall, we spent a relaxing morning connecting with nature, creativity, and each other through therapeutic art.
This workshop wasn’t about creating the perfect piece of art. It was about taking time for yourself, finding moments of calm, and celebrating the colours, textures, and memories that summer brings.
Welcome to Wortley Hall
There is something truly special about gathering at Wortley Hall. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, mature trees, colourful flowers, and peaceful woodland paths, it provides the perfect setting to slow down and reconnect with ourselves.
As members arrived, there was a wonderful atmosphere of warmth and friendship. Some participants were returning members, while others were joining us for the first time, quickly discovering how welcoming and supportive our creative community is.

Taking a Summer Walk Through the Gardens
Before picking up our art materials, we began with a gentle walk around the gardens.
Walking mindfully allowed everyone to pause and really notice the season. We admired colourful flower borders, listened to birds singing overhead, watched butterflies dancing through the plants, and appreciated the different shades of green surrounding us.
Many members commented on how calming it felt simply to walk without rushing.
Nature has a wonderful way of inspiring creativity before we even begin making art.

A Guided Summer Meditation
Back in the workshop space, we settled into a short guided meditation.
Participants were invited to close their eyes, slow their breathing, and imagine themselves standing in a peaceful summer garden filled with sunshine, birdsong, gentle breezes, and blooming flowers.
The meditation encouraged everyone to let go of busy thoughts and simply enjoy the present moment.
Many members shared afterwards how relaxed they felt before beginning their artwork.
Creating Our Summer Wreaths
With inspiration gathered from the gardens, everyone began designing their own unique summer wreath.
Using a variety of papers, natural colours, flowers, leaves, and decorative materials, each participant created something completely personal.
Some wreaths reflected vibrant summer gardens bursting with colour, while others were inspired by peaceful woodland walks or treasured summer memories.
One of the joys of therapeutic art is that there is no right or wrong way to create. Every wreath became a beautiful reflection of the person who made it.
Throughout the session there was plenty of conversation, laughter, encouragement, and moments of peaceful concentration.

Members Make
One of the most inspiring parts of every workshop is seeing the wonderful variety of artwork created.
Although everyone started with the same theme, every wreath was completely different.
Each design reflected individual personalities, favourite colours, memories, and creative styles.
Seeing everyone’s work displayed together reminded us that creativity isn’t about comparison—it’s about expression.
Every wreath was beautiful because every person brought something unique to it.

Hearing how people feel after our workshops is always the most rewarding part of what we do.
“A lovely couple of hpirs finding my creative self”
“Absolutely lovely, thank you”
“Calm space to be creative, had a lovely morning”

These moments remind us why therapeutic art is so powerful. Sometimes all we need is time, space, creativity, and connection.
