Rosie’s Creative Journey: Finding Strength Through Art
An Inspirational Story by Rosie Butcher

I’ve been meaning to share my story for quite some time, but life has a way of keeping us busy. So, here it is – my creative journey so far.
Looking back, I think I’ve always been creative. As a child, I was happiest with a pencil, paintbrush, or anything that allowed me to make something. That passion led me to study at art college in Edinburgh, where I loved experimenting with colour, texture, and the freedom of painting on huge canvases. There was something magical about losing myself in the creative process.
During my studies, I discovered a love for graphic design and went on to build a career in the industry, working as a graphic designer for over ten years. Then life took another wonderful turn. I became a mum, and before I knew it, another five or six years had flown by, filled with family life and raising my children.
Then everything changed.
Just a year after the birth of my second child, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. It was a shock beyond words. To make matters even more difficult, this all happened during the COVID lockdowns, when hospitals were quiet places and visitors weren’t allowed. Like so many others facing illness at that time, I had to find strength in ways I never imagined.
Thankfully, I had the unwavering support of my family, and together we faced each step of the journey. Today, I can proudly say that I am five years cancer-free. Surviving cancer changed me. It gave me a new appreciation for life and helped me rediscover something I hadn’t realised I was missing – my creativity.
While I was in hospital, with long hours to fill and no visitors by my side, I picked up a pencil and started drawing again. Something inside me came back to life. Art became more than something I enjoyed; it became a companion, a comfort, and a way of processing everything I was experiencing.
As I recovered, I found myself spending more time outdoors, reconnecting with nature. Even my small garden became a place of inspiration. I noticed the tiny details I’d overlooked before – delicate petals, changing seasons, beautiful colours, and the quiet resilience of plants continuing to grow.
That renewed sense of wonder inspired me to create Rosie B Creates.
I began pressing flowers, creating botanical artwork, drawing, painting, and exploring all kinds of arts and crafts. Creativity once again became a joyful part of everyday life, helping me heal, reflect, and celebrate the beauty that can be found even after life’s most difficult moments.
As my confidence grew, I started attending local craft fairs and creative events. One event in particular, Art at the House, became a turning point. It was there that I met Debbie and Heather. Looking back now, I realise that meeting them was the beginning of my journey with Art for Wellness.
What started as a chance meeting has grown into something incredibly meaningful. Being part of a creative community that believes in the power of art to support wellbeing has reminded me that creativity isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection, expression, hope, and finding light, even during life’s darkest chapters.
If my journey has taught me anything, it’s this:
Sometimes life changes direction without warning. But even in the most difficult seasons, creativity can help us heal, rediscover ourselves, and remind us that beauty still exists all around us.
I’m incredibly grateful for where this journey has taken me, and I can’t wait to see where creativity leads next. ❤️✨
The Power of Three 💜✨
A message from Debbie & Heather
When Rosie first crossed our path, we had no idea just how special that meeting would become.
We are absolutely thrilled that Rosie is now part of the Art for Wellness CIC family. Her creativity, her kindness, her passion for nature and, most importantly, her journey are such an inspiration to us and to everyone she meets.
There is something quite magical about the power of three.
Three creative women, three different journeys, three unique perspectives – coming together through a shared belief that creativity can make a difference to people’s wellbeing.
We each bring something different to Art for Wellness, and that’s what makes it so special. Debbie, Heather and Rosie – three women, one shared purpose: to create, connect and inspire wellbeing. 💜
Rosie’s story reminds us that creativity can find us again, even when life takes us somewhere we never expected to go. Her love of nature, art and creating beautiful things brings another wonderful dimension to what we do.
We feel incredibly lucky to have met Rosie and to now call her not only a colleague and fellow creative, but a very special part of our Art for Wellness journey.
The power of three isn’t just about numbers. It’s about what happens when three people come together, support one another and share a vision.
And we have a feeling this is only the beginning… 🌿🎨💜
Welcome to the Art for Wellness family, Rosie. We are so excited to see where this creative journey takes us all.
With love,
Debbie & Heather
