International Friendship Day 2026: Celebrating the Healing Power of Friendship

Thursday 30th July 2026

At Art for Wellness CIC, we believe that creativity brings people together, but friendship is what helps us flourish.

International Friendship Day is a wonderful reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting difference. A smile, a conversation, a shared creative experience or simply knowing someone is there to listen can brighten someone’s day more than we realise.

In today’s fast-paced world, many people experience loneliness, isolation and stress. Friendship offers something incredibly powerful—it helps us feel seen, valued and connected. Whether it’s a lifelong companion, someone you’ve recently met at one of our workshops, or a neighbour who stops for a chat, every meaningful connection matters.

Friendship and Wellbeing

Research continues to show that positive social connections can:

  • Reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
  • Improve mental and emotional wellbeing.
  • Help us cope with life’s challenges.
  • Increase confidence and resilience.
  • Encourage us to try new experiences.
  • Bring more joy, laughter and purpose into everyday life.

When creativity and friendship come together, something truly special happens. Sitting around a table, sharing paints, pencils or natural treasures collected on a mindful walk often leads to conversations that remind us we’re not alone.

At Art for Wellness CIC we’ve witnessed beautiful friendships blossom through our creative workshops. People who arrived feeling anxious or uncertain have left with new confidence, new memories and sometimes lifelong friends.

Small Acts of Friendship

Friendship doesn’t always require grand gestures.

Today you might:

  • Send a message to someone you’ve not spoken to for a while.
  • Invite someone for a walk in nature.
  • Share a cup of tea and an unhurried conversation.
  • Smile at someone who looks like they need encouragement.
  • Create a handmade card or piece of art for someone special.
  • Thank a friend for simply being themselves.

Sometimes the smallest act of kindness becomes the highlight of someone’s day.

A Creative Friendship Activity

Why not spend a few moments reflecting on the people who have made a difference in your life?

Take a blank piece of paper and create a simple “Friendship Garden.”

Draw or paint flowers, leaves or trees. On each one, write the name of someone who has supported, encouraged or inspired you. They could be family members, friends, neighbours, colleagues, teachers or even someone you’ve only met briefly but who showed kindness when you needed it most.

As your garden grows, take time to appreciate the many connections that have helped shape your journey.

Words to Remember

“Friendship is one of the greatest gifts we can give—and receive.”

“Kindness grows where friendship is nurtured.”

“Together we are stronger, brighter and more resilient.”

“Every conversation has the potential to change someone’s day.”

“Creativity opens the door; friendship helps us feel at home.”

“A shared smile is often the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

Looking Around the Garden

Our Look Around the Garden workshops remind us that nature teaches us about connection every day. Flowers bloom together, trees shelter one another, and gardens thrive because every part has its place.

People are much the same.

When we support one another, celebrate each other’s successes and offer compassion during difficult times, our communities become healthier, happier places to live.

Our Invitation

This International Friendship Day, take a moment to reach out.

Reconnect with an old friend.

Introduce yourself to someone new.

Share your creativity.

Spend time in nature together.

Because every friendship begins with a single act of kindness.

From all of us at Art for Wellness CIC, thank you for being part of our creative community. Together we continue to create, connect and inspire wellbeing—one friendship at a time.

Happy International Friendship Day 2026! 💜

Creating Wellbeing Through Creativity.
