Wellness Wednesday Workshops at St John’s Community Centre
We’re delighted to introduce Wellness Wednesday Workshops, a new series of free creative wellbeing sessions for adults in Penistone, supported by the Co-op Local Community Fund.

Held at St John’s Community Centre (Cubley Room), these weekly workshops provided a calm, welcoming space where people could slow down, get creative, and connect with others through gentle, mindful artmaking.
A Space to Breathe, Create and Connect
The Wellness Wednesday Workshops were designed to support mental and emotional wellbeing through accessible creative activities. Each session combined mindfulness with hands-on art, helping participants relax, stay present, and explore their creativity within a friendly and supportive group.
There was no pressure and no expectation to be “good at art.” The focus remained on enjoying the creative process rather than producing a finished piece, allowing participants to take time for themselves, explore a range of art materials, and enjoy meaningful shared creative experiences.
All materials were provided, making the sessions accessible to everyone, regardless of previous artistic experience.

Supporting Wellbeing Through Creativity
Throughout the programme, participants experienced the positive benefits that creativity can bring to wellbeing. The workshops offered opportunities to reduce stress, build confidence, ease feelings of isolation, and improve overall mood. For many, attending each week created a valued routine that encouraged connection, conversation, and a sense of belonging.
The sessions became much more than art workshops. They fostered new friendships, strengthened community connections, increased confidence, and created a safe space where people felt listened to, supported, and inspired. Participants left each session with a sense of achievement, renewed positivity, and practical creative techniques they could continue using to support their wellbeing at home.

Thanks to the Co-op Local Community Fund
Thanks to the generous support of the Co-op Local Community Fund, these workshops were offered free of charge, ensuring creative wellbeing opportunities remained accessible to people across our local community.
Art for Wellness CIC was proud to work in partnership with St John’s Community Centre to deliver this programme in Penistone, continuing our commitment to inclusive, community-centred creative wellbeing.

The programme left a lasting positive impact, showing that regular opportunities for creativity can help people flourish, build resilience, and develop a stronger sense of community and belonging.
