Family Fun Days: Creativity, Nature and Community with Art for Wellness
There is something very special about bringing families together to be creative, explore nature and simply enjoy time together. Our Family Fun Days with Art for Wellness have been all about doing just that β creating relaxed, welcoming spaces where children, parents, grandparents and the wider community can have fun, get creative and connect with each other.

A day of creativity and nature
Our Family Fun Days have brought creativity outdoors, with activities inspired by the beautiful natural surroundings of our community spaces.
At Springvale Community Garden, families enjoyed getting involved with nature-based activities, including flower crown making, foraging and creating wonderful things from natural materials.
There was something magical about seeing flowers that had been grown right there in the community garden becoming part of our creative activities.
Some of the flowers were grown at Springvale, while others were purchased to support the community garden and provide materials for our workshops.
πΈ And haven’t they grown beautifully!
Using flowers from the garden helped make the day feel even more connected to the community. It wasn’t simply about making something beautiful β it was about appreciating where those flowers came from and supporting the people who help make the garden such a special place.
Creativity brings people together
Family activities don’t have to be complicated. Sometimes the simplest creative ideas can create the biggest smiles.
Making flower crowns became a chance to choose colours, textures and flowers, while encouraging everyone to use their imagination.
Foraging in the garden encouraged families to slow down, look closely at what was around them and discover the natural treasures growing on their doorstep.
Then came the fun of turning those discoveries into something creative.
Children could explore their own ideas, while adults could join in too. There was no pressure to create a “perfect” piece of art. The emphasis was on having a go, experimenting and enjoying the experience together.
More than just an art activity
At Art for Wellness, we believe creativity can support wellbeing at every age.
Our Family Fun Days aren’t about teaching families how to become artists. They are about creating opportunities to:
- Spend quality time together
- Connect with nature
- Try something new
- Express creativity
- Meet other people in the community
- Take time away from everyday pressures
- Build happy memories together
When families create together, conversations happen naturally. Children can show their parents what they have made, grandparents can share ideas and everyone has something to talk about and enjoy.
Supporting our local community
Community is at the heart of what we do.
Holding activities at places such as Springvale Community Garden gives families the opportunity to discover and appreciate local spaces while supporting the people and organisations that look after them.
Where possible, we love using locally grown or community-sourced materials. Purchasing flowers and other materials from the garden also helps support the community and recognise the hard work that goes into maintaining these wonderful spaces.
It becomes a lovely circle:
The community grows it β we create with it β families enjoy it β the community benefits. πΏπ
Family Fun at Wortley Hall
We also brought our Family Fun Day activities to Wortley Hall, creating another opportunity for families to enjoy creativity, nature and time together in a beautiful setting.
From flower crowns and foraging to imaginative nature-inspired creations, the day was filled with colour, creativity and plenty of smiles.
Each venue brings something different, but the message remains the same:
Creativity is for everyone.
Supported by National Lottery funding
We are incredibly grateful that these community activities have been supported by National Lottery funding through Wellness in the Community.
This funding helps us bring creative wellbeing opportunities into our community and provide activities that families can enjoy together.
Without this support, opportunities like these would be much harder to provide.
ποΈπ Thank you to National Lottery funding through Wellness in the Community for helping us make creativity, connection and wellbeing accessible within our community.

Creating memories together
Looking back at our Family Fun Days, it’s the little moments that stand out β the colourful flower crowns, children exploring the garden, families creating together, conversations happening around the tables and everyone enjoying being part of something.
These are the moments that remind us why community creative activities matter.
Art doesn’t always need to be about sitting quietly at a table with a paintbrush.
Sometimes it’s about flowers, gardens, laughter, muddy hands, imagination and spending time together.
And sometimes, the most important thing we create is simply a happy memory. πΈπ
