Creative Community Workshops for Wellness

Free, nature-inspired art sessions for wellbeing and connection

Autumn 2025, Art for Wellness CIC were delighted to collaborate with Penistone Leisure Centre to deliver a new series of Creative Community Workshops, supported by Creative Lives through the Know Your Neighbourhood (KYN) initiative.

Running from October 2025 to February 2026, these free, nature-inspired art sessions invite adults from across the Penistone area to come together, get creative, and enjoy the benefits of mindful artmaking in a friendly, supportive environment.

Each week offers a new theme and project — from Halloween and Bonfire Night to Festive Crafts and Winter Wellbeing — encouraging participants to explore creativity, connect with others, and nurture positive mental health.

✨ About the Workshops

The programme begins on Thursday 30th October (10am–12pm) with a Halloween-themed workshop, followed by a series of weekly Wednesday morning sessions from 5th November to 25th February 2026.

Each two-hour workshop offers a relaxed, accessible space to try new techniques, experiment with colour and texture, and create pieces inspired by nature and the seasons.

All materials are provided, and no previous experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to have a go!

Workshops will be delivered by Art for Wellness CIC, a social enterprise specialising in creative wellbeing. Their approach blends mindfulness and artmaking to help people slow down, focus on the present, and find calm through creativity.

💜 Why Creativity Matters

These sessions are about more than making art — they’re about making connections. Research shows that regular creative activity can help reduce feelings of loneliness, boost confidence, and support emotional wellbeing.

For many adults — particularly those who are retired, caregiving, or navigating life changes — opportunities to meet others and engage in positive, hands-on activities can make a real difference. The Creative Community Workshops offer just that: a safe, welcoming space to relax, chat, and express yourself in good company.

🌱 A Shared Ethos

The partnership between Art for Wellness CIC and Penistone Leisure Centre is rooted in shared values of inclusion, wellbeing, and community connection. Both organisations are dedicated to providing creative, accessible opportunities that help people flourish — emotionally, socially, and creatively.

This project also forms part of Creative Lives’ Know Your Neighbourhood initiative, which supports community-led projects tackling loneliness and encouraging volunteering through creativity. The values of KYN align closely with Art for Wellness’ mission: to make creativity a force for good in everyday life.
