Making Art with Bits and Bobs

When inspiration strikes, you’ll have a collection of hands-on materials ready to use! Creating collages is a fun, spontaneous way to express creativity. Some people enjoy carefully planning their pieces, while others, like Debbie and Heather, embrace the randomness of creativity, letting their imagination take over.

Debbie’s Approach: “I started collecting magazines to cut out shapes and pictures for mosaic-style collages. I keep and store them in plastic folders for later use. I also collect buttons, lace, ribbon, stickers, and keepsakes from special occasions, transforming them into beautiful art.”

Heather’s Approach: “I’ve always collected bits and pieces for sentimental reasons, especially from birthdays, Christmas, and days out. At first, I was hoarding too much, so I started sticking them into a book like a scrapbook. During lockdown, I even made a collage using wrapping paper and gift tags, reminding me of the joy of those moments.”

Handy Tips for Organising Your Bits and Bobs

Sort your materials into colour piles to make themed collages easier.

Save beads, buttons, and even empty cotton reels to thread onto ribbon or cord for dangle charms.

Keep a dedicated container or folder to store your collection neatly.
