Listen to What Members Say…

“So happy I found art journaling; it’s a wonderful way to express myself.”

“I am completely new to art journaling and am still trying my best to express my thoughts in words and pictures.”

“Created a page for my journal in the middle of the night as a total beginner, keeping it simple.”

“I’m trying to just lose myself and enjoy the process.”

“A great way to collect the things I’m thankful for.”

It happens. Losing that creative spark is more common than you think.

After a rest, we wanted to paint again when the time was right. That spark—the need to create—returned. But what do you do when inspiration feels distant? How do you find your way back?

Reigniting Your Creative Spark

  • Start with an easy, creative picture.
  • Try random painting while zoning out.
  • Mix some paint colours and see where they take you.
  • Need to doodle or draw? Just start!

Remember—if the time still doesn’t feel right, that’s okay. Change your plan and do something else relaxing and mindful: go for a walk, read a book, call a friend, take a nap, or listen to music. Mindfulness can help reduce anxiety, stress, and depression—the very things that could be stopping you from being at your best.

“When your spark has gone out, ignite it with someone else’s.”

A friend’s beautiful drawing might inspire you to create your own version. Just take a deep breath and let your hands flow over the paper. What colours are calling to you today? Try letting your pen glide across the page, forming zen patterns, starting in the corner and working outward. The process is yours to enjoy.

The Story Behind Art Journaling for Beginners

Art Journaling for Beginners was more than just a Facebook group—it was a thriving, creative community of over 10,000 members. It was a safe space to share their artistic journeys, find inspiration, and support one another. Sadly, in 2024, our original group was hacked, forcing us to start anew.

But creativity is resilient, and so are we. From this setback, Art for Wellness with Debbie Crouch was born. Art journaling is still at the heart of what we do, but our vision has expanded. We now focus on the therapeutic power of creativity, offering guidance, workshops, and a welcoming space for all ages and abilities.

Why Art Journaling?

For us, art journaling is more than just a creative outlet. It’s a form of self-care, a way to process emotions, and a space to explore ideas freely. It started with a simple idea—what if art could help people heal? And over the years, we’ve seen firsthand how transformative it can be.

Debbie Crouch: “Art journaling gives people permission to be themselves. There’s no right or wrong—it’s about the process, not the result.”

Heather: “It started as a way to express my thoughts, but it became my safe place. A way to pause, reflect, and let my creativity flow without judgment.”

Art journaling is about embracing imperfection and finding joy in the little things. It’s about capturing a moment, a feeling, or an idea and letting it unfold on the page.
