Strawberry Moon in June – A Time to Create, Reflect and Bloom

Have you ever looked up into the night sky and wondered why the full moon in June is called the Strawberry Moon?
Despite its name, the moon doesn’t usually appear pink or red like a strawberry. The name comes from Native American traditions, marking the time when wild strawberries were ready to be picked. It became a symbol of abundance, gratitude and celebrating the gifts that nature provides.
For me, the Strawberry Moon feels like an invitation.
An invitation to slow down.
To notice the beauty around us.
To take a deep breath.
And perhaps most importantly… to create.
As we move towards the longest days of the year, nature is alive with colour, texture and movement. Flowers are blooming, bees are busy, birds are singing and gardens are bursting into life. It reminds us that growth doesn’t happen overnight. It happens quietly, little by little, one day at a time.
Creativity is much the same.
Sometimes we expect ourselves to paint a masterpiece, fill an art journal or finish a project in one sitting. But creativity isn’t about perfection—it’s about showing up. Making one mark on the paper. Choosing one colour. Taking one small creative step.
The Strawberry Moon is a gentle reminder that everything has its season.
Perhaps this is your season to begin something new.
Maybe it’s time to dust off those paints, open a fresh sketchbook or collect leaves and flowers on a mindful walk. You might enjoy creating a moon-inspired collage, painting soft watercolour skies, pressing flowers into your journal or simply sitting outside with a notebook and writing down how you’re feeling.
Creativity doesn’t need expensive materials.
It simply asks for your attention.
Your curiosity.
Your willingness to explore.
One of my favourite wellbeing activities is to spend a few quiet moments outside in the evening. Watching the moon rise, listening to the sounds of nature and allowing my mind to settle. Afterwards, I often create without a plan. Sometimes it’s abstract marks, sometimes gentle colours, sometimes words. There is no right or wrong.
Just expression.
The Strawberry Moon also reminds us to celebrate how far we’ve come. Just as strawberries ripen in their own time, we too are growing, learning and healing, even when we don’t always notice it.
So, wherever you are on your creative journey, be kind to yourself.
Celebrate the small wins.
Enjoy the process.
And remember that every creative moment is an act of self-care.
Tonight, if the skies are clear, take a look at the moon.
Let it remind you that there is beauty in slowing down, joy in creating and hope in new beginnings.
Creative Challenge
This week, create something inspired by the Strawberry Moon.
It could be:
- A moon painting using your favourite colours.
- A nature collage using leaves, petals or grasses.
- A journal page reflecting on what is growing in your life.
- A gratitude list of the things you’re thankful for this June.
- A mindful sketch of the evening sky.
Whatever you create, remember…
There is no perfect way to be creative.
Just begin.
Happy creating,
